Pregnancy Related Stroke

Learning Target

Pregnancy-associated stroke is uncommon. But it is one of the common causes of stroke in developing countries. Stroke is a major contributor to the serious morbidity and mortality of pregnancy. The physiological, hormonally mediated changes in circulation, vascular tissue structure, and coagulability, and the pathological state of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia contribute to this increased risk of stroke. During pregnancy and for approximately 6 weeks after birth, all women are at increased risk of thromboembolic disease. This topic will be covered under the following sub-headings, and will include aetiology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, as well as topics such as pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, peripartum and postpartum haemorrhage.

Successful completion of the CME test at the end of the module will provide you with 2 CME points.
